Don't Burn The Nuts Idiot!!!

No No i'm no Anthony Robbins or Tony Little, but I am going to tell you about something magical. So back when I was about 27 or so, my Mom gave me one of the best gifts ever. She made me a binder with all of her favorite recipes...and many of my favorites as well. One of the treasures contained in this book now referred to as " The Salad". As in .."Hey Heather we are having a party you should make THE SALAD". I know what you are thinking...who cares about a stupid salad. Well...everyone cares about this salad because it is the jam.
Now that spring has sprung, you should have a picnic...make this salad..and improve your life. It's really all about the toasted pine nuts. Don't burn them because they will then taste like cremains. Ok...well here is the recipe:

Ingredients

Directions

  1. 1
Whisk first 4 ingredients in small bowl; and gradually whisk in oil.
  2. 2
Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  3. 3
Combine lettuce, green onions, bell peppers, feta cheese, pine nuts, and dill in large bowl.
  4. 4
    Add dressing; toss to coat

And as a side note:
Please do not eat this sandwich below..known as the Double Down Sandwich. This will kill you. The salad above will just kill you slowly.

You're Welcome!

Paper Clip Rationing Causes New Salon Venture

Wow..so it's been a while since I wrote something on here. There is so much to talk about I don't even know where to begin. Well, I quit my job at Binder & Binder yesterday. After drafting many furious resignation letters, I decided to be semi-professional and sent them this:

To Whom It May Concern:

This letter is to formally announce my resignation from Binder & Binder. I believe the work environment at Binder & Binder is not congruent with my personality. I provide excellent service to your clients, I excel in making relationships with people, and I truly enjoy being productive and managing my case load. The stifling atmosphere is more than I can manage on a daily basis. Please consider this a notice of my immediate resignation. Best of luck in the future.

Sincerely,
Heather Dykstra

My leaving was certainly for the best. On my last day there I was told by someone in management that I was not allowed to speak to other employees. I replied with "I am almost 35 years old and I will speak whenever I want". I think i'm just not cut out for office life...or law...or air that doesn't circulate, or paper cuts, or paper clip rationing, or supervisors referring to themselves as "deputies". Deputies of what? I don't know. I'm just glad that horrible nightmare is over. Please someone throw my friend Jesha a great job opportunity, so she can tell those people to go fly a kite (while holding a metal rod). I mean isn't she cute ...just look at us here:

Soooo...I have been working on building my hair clientèle, so I could start working as a stylist again full time. My dear friend Carolina and I put our 2 brilliant cabesas together and are making this shit happen. Salon Zero opens this Saturday!! I am so excited about this I can hardly contain myself. It's a small 2 chair salon, but perfect for us to make magic happen. We are both undercover hippies and really want to make the salon a sustainable environment. You can read about our color line Organic Color Systems and about how wonderful we are on our website:

Defocation + Modeling =Defomodeling

Seriously, how long are underweight girls going to do this broken bird, scoliosis, poop shoot, tummy ache, pelvic thrust, vomit inducing model pose? I mean really...is it done yet. If I was an agent and someone had a pose in their portfolio that looked like this, I would set it on fire.
Obviously, I am not a model. If I did this pose I would certainly look like I was bloated with bad posture. Actually, I am bloated with bad posture, but that's a story for another day. Just please, models of the world , stop the Defomodeling now. Vogue doesn't want your skeleton dropping a duece on their magazine cover. I'm just saying ..........

Horror Beards Are All the Rage.

If you are planning to kill someone, please ensure that your sweet ass wet beard is intact. I saw Halloween 2 (I refuse to call it H2...btw) this weekend. To my delight, Michael has been living in the woods for the past year and now rocks a magnificent neck beard. The entire movie people keep mistaking him for a 7 foot bum. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The movie itself was full of wonder as well. We are huge Rob Zombie directorial fans, but this gem was so dark and dismal and great. When I watch Zombie's movies I find many similarities to my photographic style. When I have said that to friends and family, they seem shocked and appaled. Have they never met me? Gore sells! The way the streetlights are always over exposed and the framing of each scene...magical. There are a few snore scenes and some unneccessary gore, but all in all a must see summer movie. And...of course it came out in theaters on my birthday.
If you haven't seen this already, you should go RIGHT NOW.

My stomach hurts and I have to go paint my nails, so I can be pretty for work.

Happy Trails
Heather

Captain's Log Post Birthday

Should I type something here?

It's amazing how much time I have not spent creating a blog. I am much funnier in person, and am sure I will dissappoint with my paltry writing ability. I decided this would be the year I jump in and make this happen. Please know up front that I love run on sentances...I use too many ellipses...and I say "jam on" like 100 times a day. I like to speak using text lingo to be the most obnoxious person alive. I also can do the hammer better than anyone you have ever met. As you now have read, you can see I have a bunch of random skills that keep me poor, but entertained.

I live in Tampa with my husband Tim and our 2 kids (Gray and Addison). They are packed full of whack and wierd. I'm sure you will read many stories of our family woes, accomplishments, and the many magical moments that make my family so unique.

I have no idea what I plan to use this blog for...daily life stories, music reviews, vegan recipe mishaps and trimuphs, and my quest to always see details that others fail to recognize.

Please keep your arms inside the vehicle at all times....enjoy the ride.
